Why Yellow is the Best Color

Everyone has a favorite color, which can change from time to time, but I believe I have solidified my favorite. YELLOW. Out of the 10 million colors the human eye is able to see, and the 16.8 million colors technology is able to create, yellow is superior.

I mean, look at all these logos that decided that yellow is the clear winner to identify themselves with.

Batman?! Ferrari?! Cheerios?! McDonald’s?! Clearly these companies are on the right track, because they all together, excluding Cheerios, are worth $72.15 billion. You know what that means?

Here is an example of how much better a logo looks when yellow:

Does this not just make your little heart sing with happiness? I may be a bit biased, but this logo looks soooooooo much cooler. Netflix’s current worth at $32.9 billion could only increase with the change in color

What else makes yellow amazing? The ability to make drivers nervous deciding whether to continue driving or stop. Yellow is the middle of the stop light. That is the central focal point meaning that yellow is the most important – front and center. A small, yellow light has the ability to create or cease mass chaos. That is a huge responsibility.

With great power, comes great responsibility.

Traffic light

Yellow signifies yield – to stop and contemplate your decision. If we look at this intellectually, yellow is the warning to tell us that we need to stop and think. Life is not about rushing; it is about cruising. Too often America is constantly rushing from place to place – eat fast, drive fast, work fast. And for what? To get home for a limited amount of time to finally relax? And maybe not even then, because you are rushing to clean the house; rushing to make dinner; rushing to watch the TV program. Is yellow not requesting us to think, relax, and breathe? The destination is just as important as the journey. It may take a couple minutes longer to reach your destination, but what is the use of speeding through activities? How can you appreciate your ability to do those things? But Liz, who wants to take their time cleaning dishes? Tons of people! Not only is it therapeutic for some, but it is a privilege to have the clean water to clean the dishes or the sight to see the dishes or the physical ability to complete the washing. What about driving fast? Take your time. Most of the time, if you relax while driving, you will reach the destination within minutes of when you would have if you sped. I love being in my car and listening to music. I am in no rush to end my jams.

Okay, that is enough of that rant.

According to sensationalcolors.com, yellow affects us physically by stimulating mental processes, stimulating the nervous system, activating memory, and encouraging communication.

Yellow is often associated with happiness. When people are asked to close their eyes and imagine a color for the emotions glee, happiness, cheer, they are often saying yellow.

Sunflowers are a beautiful and natural display of the color yellow. When someone is given flowers, it is intended to make them feel better. Having a flower being yellow only doubles the ability to make someone happier. Yellow = happiness and flower = happiness. I am not too good at math but:

happiness + happiness = 2x happiness.

Yellow is also awesome enough to have songs written about it!

  • “Big Yellow Taxi” by Joni Mitchell, covered by Amy Grant, covered by Counting Crows featuring Vanessa Carlton
  • “Black, Red, Yellow” by Pearl Jam
  • “Blue and Yellow” by The Used
  • “Don’t Eat the Yellow Snow” by Frank Zappa
  • “Double Yellow Line” by The Music Machine
  • “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Elton John
  • “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” by Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss
  • “Mellow Yellow” by Donovan
  • “Tie A Yellow Ribbon” by Tony Orlando and Dawn
  • “Yellow Submarine” by the Beatles
  • “Black and Yellow” by rapper Wiz Khalifa
