Archives 2016: Why Diets Suck – As Told by Parks and Rec

I just found this in my drafts and thought I should post it because I’m on a low carb diet right now, but I don’t feel as frustrated as this nasty rant.

It goes without saying that diets are not necessarily that fun. Is this post in spite of the diet I just went on? Possibly. Do I really think this? Maybe.

“Up to 50 percent of women are on a diet at any given time,” and “up to 90 percent of teenagers diet regularly, and up to 50 percent of younger kids have tried a diet at some point.” These numbers are so incredibly high. I am all for eating healthy, but I believe dieting is a whole different story. Why restrict yourself from eating?

Here are why diets SUCK

You begin this new and exciting diet in hopes that you will be super skinny like all the social media icons; that you will fit into the thin column of an “ideal” women; that you will turn heads when you walk down the street; that you will be more confident. Truth is, only  you can decide those things. No one person has control on what an ideal or hot or confident women is. You are in control of that!

These diets usually consist of low carb, high protein alternatives which includes plenty of fruit and veggies – including everyone’s favorite, leafy greens.

The first week is setting in and you begin to crave all your favorites.

OKAY STOP.

NO. No diet. No fasting. No restrictions. This is why diet suck. They do not ensure results to last. They do not ensure unlimited happiness. They do not ensure true well-being. Well-being in physical health? Maybe. Well-being in mental health? Probably not.

 Be happy with yourself. Be proud of yourself. Love yourself or no one else will.

  • Occasional splurge of a jar of peanut butter
  • Occasional splurge of a pint of ice cream
  • Occasional splurge of french toast
  • Occasional… I splurge a lot
  • I am a foodie
