You have probably seen your friends on Facebook trying to sell them or have at least seen a bottle or two at your local spa, but do you know the reason people buy it? Essential oils. To some, they are essential.
Why do people use essential oils?
Essential oil therapy, or aromatherapy, is the use of scented oils to assist the body. The oils have been known to heal anxiety, stress, headaches, nausea, etc. Most people inhale the scents and some even put them on pressure points. Make sure to always spot test the oils before directly applying to skin to ensure no allergies. Others add it to baths, humidifiers or anything else that can extract the scents.
While some people use it as a natural remedy for every day pain, stress or anxiety, others simply enjoy the spa-like smells.
I highly recommend trying essential oil therapy if you have anxiety. Whenever you feel an attack coming or need to calm down, inhaling the oils can help you relax and clear your mind. I have been using essential oil therapy for two years now, and I have not had a panic attack since; however, everyone is different, and it may not work for everyone. Trial and error is the best way to find the remedy that works best for you.
What are some types of essential oils?
Eucalyptus – Best used for decongestant, migraines and fevers.
Peppermint – Best used for mental alertness or instant energy. Also aids in digestion and congestion.
Rosemary – Best used for memory booster, brain performance in general, congestion, cramping, depression, digestion and headaches.
Jasmine – Best used for depression, childbirth, respiratory problems, addiction issues and stress.
Lavender – Best used for colds and flues, depression, stress and anti-inflammatory. It is also one of the most popular scents.
Lemon – Used for an array of issues; however, best used for immunity booster, energy, skin irritation, circulation problems and digestion.
Where do I buy essential oils?
There are a multitude of resources for buying oils. While I am not picky and just pick mine up from TJ Maxx or Homegoods, other people suggest ensuring that they are organic and unaltered (nothing synthetic).
It is always great to buy local and support family/small businesses as well. So if your Facebook friend is selling, ask questions about the quality and support their business efforts.
